What does the process entail?

Process for ADHD assessment in Adults

The assessment of ADHD in Adults is a three-step process further to request of an ADHD assessment officially either from the patient/carer/family member or the General Practioners.

  1. The patient/ carer/ family member will be provided with a few questionnaires to be filled in prior to the assessment along with physical measurements including resting blood pressure, pulse rate, height, and weight. The patient will also be requested to provide some information around their physical health on a health screening questionnaire.
  2. Upon receipt of the filled in questionnaires, it will be reviewed by a psychiatrist and a 60–90-minute virtual remote video consultation will be provided for a DIVA 5 Assessment (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults DIVA 5 Assessment) will be done.
  3. Upon receipt of the DIVA 5 Assessment by a Psychiatrist, a subsequent 60 – 90-minute remote video consultation would be provided by a Consultant Psychiatrist for a clinical assessment of Adult ADHD. The session would encompass clinical assessment, diagnostic formulation and a management plan including discussion around medication management and psychological interventions.

If the patient is keen on initiation of ADHD medication, then a private prescription would be issued by a Consultant Psychiatrist to a pharmacy of patients’ choice, and they will be reviewed every three weeks for titration with the physical measurements until they are stabilised and optimised with the ADHD medication.

In case of any adverse side effects experienced by the patient while on initiation or on titration of medication, they would be able to email the admin staff for it to be reviewed by the Consultant Psychiatrist and an appropriate response would be provided.

It is the responsibility of the patient, to book, review appointments well in advance prior to running out of the medication.

The following questionnaires will be provided to the patient/carer/family member to be filled in prior to the assessment.

  1. Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale
  2. Depression Rating Scale
  3. Anxiety Rating Scale
  4. Early Neurodevelopmental History Questionnaire
  5. Health Screening Questionnaire
  6. Physical Observations- including height, weight, resting blood pressure and pulse rate.
  7. ECG would be mandatory if there is any family history of heart disease.
  8. Relevant bloods tests would be requested as appropriate
